Why do we eat year old cake???

The question “why do we eat year old cake?” came to me yesterday as I went to Mama’s to pick up our defrosted (thanks, Mama!) top tier of our wedding cake to eat on our anniversary. I took our polka dotted cake home and proceeded to unwrap the plastic. The icing still tasted pretty normal…we decided to proceed with the rest. I cut into the cake and put a piece on a plate for Stan and me to taste…yuck! It’s hard to even describe the consistency! Not very tasty! I looked on the Internet and found why people eat it…”By tradition, a bride and groom save the top tier of their wedding cake (also known as the Anniversary Tier) to share on the first anniversary of their wedding date. Considered to be good luck contributing to a long life together, it will also give you the unique opportunity to again feel the love and emotions of your wedding day. Partaking of the cake on this date will give you another perfect opportunity to renew your love and commitment to each other.” I must say tasting our wedding cake yesterday gave neither Stan nor I the opportunity to feel the love and emotions of our wedding day…it tasted nothing like that a year ago! I am very interested to hear if anyone’s wedding cake was good a year later…

Here is our year old cake...very different from what it looked like a year ago!!!

First Anniversary Weekend

Stan planned a surprise trip for our anniversary this weekend. On Saturday afternoon we drove to Black Mountain which is located just outside of Asheville, North Carolina. We went to a sweet little Bed and Breakfast called “Inn Around the Corner.” When we arrived we took a nice long nap…what a treat! Later in the evening we walked over to another Bed and Breakfast for an amazing dinner. After dinner we went back to our room and just sat, relaxed, and read…it has been a looong time since we have been able to do that. We also exchanged gifts! Stan got me a gorgeous Black Onyx ring…I was so surprised! I got him a Fossil Sport watch. The next morning we got up and had an incredible breakfast and headed back to Tennessee.

It was in the church Family Life Center. We had four different inflatables...including a 50 foot obstacle course. We had such a fun time!!!

One Year Anniversary!

Sunday, April 22nd will be our one year anniversary! What an awesome year it has been! We continue to learn so much about each other on a daily basis. We will always cherish this first year together, but look forward to many more wonderful years ahead. I anxiously await what God has in store for us.

I have an amazing husband who strives daily to be the best man he can be in serving the Lord. He encourages me in my walk with Christ and keeps us focused on the One who brought us together. I feel so blessed to be married to Stan. I am so thankful for what God continues to teach me through him.

Thank you all for your continued prayers as we continue this journey together.

Pre-Wedding Day Festivities

With our one year anniversary approaching this weekend...I thought now would be a great time to share some of our Pre-Wedding Day Festivities...showers, luncheons, friends, family and fellowship!

Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog! I just love Blogger and feel that there is so much more that I can do here. Carrie tried to help me figure out how to put all my WordPress posts here...but it looks to be impossible. Hopefully I will get around to cutting and pasting them at some point. But...welcome to the new home of all of my future posts.

Fun Times with Girlfriends and Babies!

This past weekend I took a little road trip to Nashville to visit with some of my best buds and their babies! I hadn’t seen Tara and little Connor in 2 weeks and just had to go for a visit! Tara and I had such a fun time hanging out and playing with sweet Connor. On Friday, Carrie and Hayden came to Tara’s for the afternoon and a trip to the mall! We had such a fun time! The boys were so cute meeting each other for the very first time! I must say when it comes time for me to have babies I’m going to be one informed gal thanks to Tara and Carrie! On Saturday, Tara and I went out shopping for a cute Easter outfit for Connor since the one that Tara had for him was too summery for our Dogwood Winter conditions! It was such an awesome weekend and I feel so blessed to have such amazing girlfriends! Here are a few pictures from the fun weekend (some are duplicates from Tara’s blog)…

Fourth Birthday Party!

This past weekend Stan and I traveled to Birmingham to celebrate Nathan and Mason’s 4th Birthday! Their actual birthday isn’t until Wednesday but the big shin-dig was this past weekend! We had such a blast! It was so much fun helping Stacey with some of the pre-party preparations…spray painting eggs! Stacey definitely throws amazing birthday parties! There was an Easter (and…Spiderman/Superman) theme…egg hunt, egg dying (thanks, Paula!), sack race, and even a visit from the Easter Bunny (great job, Kristina!)! Here are some of the pictures from the big event…

Shower Fun!

On Saturday, March 24th Casey and I had a shower for Lacy at the Methodist Church in Rockwood. We had such a fun time visiting with all of our Rockwood friends and family. Lacy got some amazing gifts! Those of you that weren’t able to make it…we really missed you!!! Lori, we hope you had a great weekend with your sister…we missed you! Tara, we had such a fun time hanging out with you and Connor…he is such a sweet baby! And, I am definitely going to press on with this arranged marriage for him and Kiley!
